How To Generate Sales Using Email
So now that we've covered some real statistics about email. The unanswered question is..."How To Generate Sales Using Email?"
Okay, getting someone to opt-in to an email list, isn’t always easy.
American companies send out more than 1.4 million emails each month. The average person receives over 120 emails daily. Before you even start a conversation with most prospective subscribers, they’re usually overwhelmed by what’s in their inboxes already.
We're going to list below, a few strategic ways to outbrain the competition and improve your opt-in email strategy.
⦁ First, you'll want to inform your prospects on what content to expect from your emails. The way to accomplish that is, to include a short and clear description of the content you’re going to send in your opt-in form or welcome email.
Imagine this scenario happening. Your opt-in form clearly stated that the subscriber will receive a monthly newsletter. All of a sudden, they start receiving daily, or bi-weekly promos and new arrival notifications...What do you believe would happen next?
There’s a good chance that they’ll feel confused or annoyed, and may click the unsubscribe button, or even mark your messages as spam! Carefully managing your customer's expectations from the beginning, helps to avoid these situations.
One of the best ways to capture opt-ins is to build and maintain separate lists for different campaign offers. Although It may appear to be a tedious time-consuming process. It's one of the most reliable and effective ways to build brand recognition, credibility, and authority, from the ground up. Each list you build becomes a resource with endless possibilities, that may not seem a worthy effort in the beginning. However, it will, down the line.
⦁ Encourage constructive feedback from your customers, by creating mini-surveys. Listen to your audience. Get to know them intimately, and what I mean is, to not just collect their name and email address. I'm talking about understanding their desires, needs, pain points, and most importantly to help them find a solution, that should not only serve you but MUST be beneficial to your customer as well. Otherwise, your campaigns will suffer!
⦁ Don't overly complicate matters... Keep things simple! An opt-in page should be short and sweet and don’t make it difficult for sign-ups. The purpose here is to capture leads, not milk them for too many details before they make a commitment. Otherwise, you'll trigger a high Op-in bounce rate.
No one wants to read a wall of text or fill in more than a half dozen fields just to sign up for a newsletter. Don’t discourage potential subscribers by overthinking your opt-in email strategy. Try to avoid flashy graphics, which can be distracting. Keep it to a minimum between 2- 4 lines, with relevant information requests, such as NAME & EMAIL address, at best!
⦁ Offer something valuable in exchange for opting in...If you're planning on capturing leads, offering a value-added lead magnet to your opt-in form, is usually an effective way. This could be anything from a downloadable expert guide to a one-time buy one, get one (BOGO) deal. You should offer something that aligns with your target audience’s interests.
Lead magnets can entice people to provide you with more than their emails and names. If your sign-up process is more complicated than it needs to be, at least make it worth their while.
You can also have a lead magnet pull subscribers into an onboarding email drip campaign. This is a great way to introduce your brand gradually without overstaying your welcome. After all, you’re more likely to make a good impression if you come bearing gifts, and not empty-handed.
⦁ Double opt-in, require new subscribers to confirm their decision What makes a confirmed opt-in better than a single opt-in?. It's called a double opt-in, this process may feel counterintuitive and redundant. But it keeps your email list healthier.
When you send an email to verify sign-up through an opt-in form, you’re also testing to see if the provided address is active. This prevents you from adding typos or bogus emails to your list and reduces marketing email bounce rates.
Confirmation emails also remind new subscribers that they’ve consented to receive your content. It can reduce misunderstandings and unwarranted spam complaints.
People that go through double opt-ins also show you they’re more responsive and willing to interact with your emails.
A good practice is to allow subscribers to manage preferences, by making selecting from the opt-in information you've provided. If you decide to offer is an all-or-nothing experience, most customers will choose “nothing” especially if not fully satisfied with what they’re getting. Why not create a way to have them opt down instead of opting out completely?
Add a preference center for your subscribers to specify: [A] What kind of content they’re interested in, and how often they're willing to receive emails. [B] How much personal information they’re comfortable sharing with your brand, by allowing them to change the details on the opt-in, before submitting it.
Giving them control over their subscription helps you send emails that they’ll appreciate and cuts down on instances, where they become frustrated, and hit the unsubscribe button.
If you aren’t starting from scratch, exercise social proof to grow your email list. What’s social proof? It ranges from customer testimonials to email list statistics.
For example, adding a line like, “Join more than 5,000 subscribers” is using social proof. Using actual quotes. You may think of this as humble bragging or outright boasting. But adding social proof to emails works, every time!
There's no harm in using data from your existing subscribers to grow your list. Just make absolutely sure you have their explicit consent to include quotes and voluntary survey metrics in your marketing campaigns.
Use different website tools like top bars and exit-intent popups. Having a simple email sign-up form on a single page on your website may not generate enough leads for your digital marketing efforts.
You can add a simplified opt-in form underneath every page or blog post. You can also use slide-ins, sidebars, and top bars. A particularly effective opt-in email strategy is to set up an exit-intent box to pop up before a visitor navigates away from your site.
Fine-tuning your opt-in email strategy is a must for digital marketers looking to increase revenue and conversion rates. It sets the stage for your audience to have better interactions with your brand, as well.
